The Maxwell 25850 is an advanced multi-
function detector. Detects metal, AC voltage
and wood. It is useful at construction sites,
buildings, etc.

Slide the top of the battery holder and insert
a new 9V-6F22 battery (figure 4). Replace the
cover and the device is ready.

metal detection
•
Hold the device as shown on fig. 5 and turn
the ‚B’ knob all the way down.
•
Set the function switch to AC voltage/metal
detector mode. The green „on” LED will light
up. Make sure that the device is not near any
metal objects or cables.
•
Turn the ‚B’ knob until the detector signals (the
red LED lights up and the beeper beeps). Turn
the ‚B’ knob into the other direction until the
signals cease. The device is now ready for use.
•
Hold the device as shown on fig. 6 and place
it sideways to the wall in a horizontal position.
The LED and the beeper will signal as soon as
a metal object is sensed. A blinking red light
and short beeps will signal that cables may be
near. (See fig. 7)
•
If the detector does not work properly after
turning it on, see the „GENERAL SETTINGS”
chapter for further information.

shielded cables may not be detected, or ones
running in culverts, as only metal will be
detected.
Note:
•
Some walls may contain metal threads for fire
safety reasons, these may also be charged
(static charge). In such a case, put your hand
on the wall until the phenomenon disappears.
•
Hitting and rubbing the device to the wall may
generate electricity which can melt the fuse.

As small amounts of current are enough for the
device to detect them, in some cases - e.g. a
badly insulated cable in a wet wall - the device
will show voltage on the wall. This signals a
potentially dangerous situation that needs to be
verified with a voltage meter.
information about stud detection
For detecting vertical slats and studs inside walls
follow the below instructions:
•
Place the device near the wall so the „Stud”
sign is touching the wall.
•
Follow figure 8: turn the ‚A’ knob all the way
down.
•
Set the function switch to STUD DETECTOR
mode.
•
Turn the ‚A’ knob until the red LED and the
beeper start to signal.
•
Carefully turn the ‚A’ knob until the green LED
turns on and the beeper stops beeping.
•
If the device does not work as it should, it
needs calibration. For details, please check the
„GENERAL SETTINGS” chapter.
•
Place the device horizontally to the wall (see
fig. 9). Make sure that the device is placed with
its „STUD” side to the wall. Otherwise the green
LED will turn off and the calibration needs to
be done again from the beginning.
•
If the device detects an edge or stud in the
wall, the red LED turns on and the beeper
beeps. Mark this spot on the wall (see fig. 10)
•
Continue moving the device until the green
LED lights up and the beeping stops. Mark this
spot as well. These spots mark the edges or
studs. The mid of the two marks is the middle
point of the woodwork in the wall.
for detecting horizontal slats or studs follow
the instructions below:
•
Place the device horizontally to the wall
