Section 7 - Engine
as you will otherwise spend a lot of time bleeding air out of the fuel system. It is also very
important to lubricate the o-ring on the new filter with clean engine oil to get a proper
seal.
Once filter is replaced start the engine and check for leaks.
On all installations there should always be a fuel prefilter and the element of this should
also be replaced periodically.
Note: If using JP5 or JP8 fuel please contact Marinediesel as these will and must have a
specific prelubricated JP filter.
Add fuel lubrication additive to fuel tank
This is to add additional lubrication to the fuel injection system on the engine and extend
component life. There are several additives are available but if you have questions on
which to use please contact you local Marinediesel representative.
Change Serpentine belt
You use a 3/8” wrench on the belt tensioner to loosen the tension on the belt and
remove it. The routing of the belt is shown on page 201.
Change glow plugs
The glow plugs need to be changed periodically to make sure the starting operation of
the engine performs as it should. Defect glow plugs will make the engine hard to start
when cold but even when warm. The glow plugs are located underneath the exhaust
manifolds and can be tricky to access in a small engine compartment. When putting new
plugs in use some grease on the threads as they can corrode and make them difficult to
remove next time. Also make sure that the electrical connectors do not have corrosion
on them as this will lead to poor connection and poor starting. Location of the glow plugs
can bee seen on the picture below.
