REFRIGERANT RE-USE POLICY
Manitowoc recognizes and supports the need for proper
handling, re-use, and disposal of, CFC and HCFC
refrigerants. Manitowoc service procedures require
recapturing refrigerants, not venting them to the
atmosphere.
It is not necessary, in or out of warranty, to reduce or
compromise the quality and reliability of your customers’
products to achieve this.
Manitowoc approves the use of:
1.
New Refrigerant
•
Must be of original nameplate type.
2.
Reclaimed Refrigerant
•
Must be of original nameplate type.
•
Must meet ARI Standard 700 (latest edition)
specifications.
3.
Recovered or Recycled Refrigerant
•
Must be recovered or recycled in accordance
with current local, state and federal laws.
•
Must be recovered from and re-used in the same
Manitowoc product. Re-use of recovered or
recycled refrigerant from other products is not
approved.
•
Recycling equipment must be certified to ARI
Standard 740 (latest edition) and be maintained
to consistently meet this standard.
•
Recovered refrigerant must come from a
“contaminant-free” system. To decide whether
the system is contaminant free, consider:
– Type(s) of previous failure(s)
– Whether the system was cleaned, evacuated
and recharged properly following failure(s)
– Whether the system has been contaminated
by this failure
– Compressor motor burnouts and improper
past service prevent refrigerant re-use.
– Refer to “System Contamination Cleanup” to
test for contamination.
4.
“Substitute” or “Alternative” Refrigerant
•
Must use only Manitowoc-approved alternative
refrigerants.
•
Must follow Manitowoc-published conversion
procedures.
Important
Manitowoc Ice, Inc. assumes no responsibility for
use of contaminated refrigerant. Damage resulting
from the use of contaminated, recovered, or
recycled refrigerant is the sole responsibility of the
servicing company.
