This particularly applies to the General Safety Instructions section
and the safety instructions in the various chapters.
6.9
First commissioning
Correct commissioning in the first instance is of key importance for the operational safety and reli
ability of the engines. If commissioning is performed incorrectly, engine damage will be the inevit
able consequence.
The procedure comprises several steps:

Thorough installation check
S
Filling of the engine with engine oil, marking the oil dipstick
S
Filling of the engine with coolant, bleeding of the cooling system
S
Starting the engine
S
Performing a test drive, including measuring and recording important data
Performing initial commissioning requires specific know-how on the part of the personnel as well
as specific equipment.
First commissioning may therefore only be performed by persons or workshops authorised and certified by
MAN Nuremberg (Marine Engines department).
NOTE
Incorrectly performed first commissioning results in operating faults which lead to the engine
becoming a total write-off.
Therefore:

Commissioning is to be performed solely by personnel authorised by MAN Nuremberg (Marine Engi
nes department).

Danger to life due to non-functioning safety equipment
Therefore:

Check whether all safety equipment is functioning properly and installed correctly before commencing
work.
