[3] Troubleshooting on Ignition system

Is Spark plug dry and properly installed?

Remove Spark plug. Does Spark plug has damage?

Is Spark plug different from the spec. ?

Is there carbon black on the electrodes?

Replace Spark plug. Use Makita genuine Spark plug.

See operating manual! Otherwise Ignition module might be

damaged.

Eliminate the causes for carbon deposits on electrodes (bad

two-stroke oil, wrong mix defective air filter, inapproriate

carburetor adjsutment.)

Test Ignition system with 1R181, or do as follows:

Remove Spark plug from Cylinder, without

disconnecting Spark plug connector and Spark plug.

Then attach Spark plug to Cylinder

with Insulated

pliers

and pull Starter rope to check the spark on

the gap of Spark plug.

Note

: To avoid the danger of electric shock/explosion;

Do not touch Spark plug directly by hand.

Do not attach Spark plug to the area around

          the plug hole of Cylinder.

Is the gap of Spark plug correct? (should be 0.5 mm)

Is the gap between Flywheel and Ignition coil 0.25-0.3

mm?

Is the gap even without any contact/ wear?

Is there damage to Insulation of High-voltage cable or

Ignition cable, or coils of Igniton coil?

Remove Flywheel and check the shape.

Does Flywheel has damage?

Does the keyway of Flywheel has damage?

Does Spark plug flood or does it have carbon deposits?

Continue troubleshooting. Check Tank, Fuel hose,

Carburetor.

Replace Ignition module. Has the trouble been resloved?

Adjust the gap of Spark plug

to 0.5 mm with 1R366.

Replace spark plug and ckeck Ignition module for corrosion,

if necessary.

Has the trouble been resolved?

Wash spark plug in acetone. Do not sandblast Spark plug!

If necessary, replace Spark plug.

Eliminate the causes: wrong carburetor setting, too much

                                    2-stroke oil mixture in gosoline,

frequently and brief run of Engine.

Check the radial play of Drive shaft, and repair if needed.

Replace Ignition module if traces of overheating become

visible.

Adjust the gap between Flywheel and Ignition coil correctly.

Replace Flywheel. Before installation, wipe the taper

contacts of Drive shaft and Flywheel with acetone or alcohol

to remove any grease. Tighten M8x1 Hex nut to the correct

torque!
