6.1 How to enable the
Hybrid function
procedure
To enable the function, just select the
function from the Setup menu and, when
requested, enter the password “HFEN”
This kit can be used on all MAHLE
recharge stations programmed with
version 1.2 or any later version.

8 Introduction to
the function
The A/C systems of most hybrid vehicles
are equipped with compressors managed
by an electric motor and they are not
controlled by the timing belt.
Windings of the electric motor are dipped
in the compressor’s lubrication oil,
typically POE type. That is why oils used
by these compressors have a high
dielectric property (non-conductive)
Manufacturers of electric compressors
have proven that just 1% of
contamination from incorrect oil can alter
the dielectric properties of the lubricant
and cause several problems in case of
contamination.
- One of the main risks related to
contaminated POE oil, is the loss of its
insulating property. This may cause the
transmission of high voltage to the
compressor case or to the components
connected to it, thus leading to
electrocution hazards for the operation in
case of contact.
- Another problem that may occur in case
of contamination is the compressor
protection system being tripped. This
system, by means of a specific sensor,
detects any current dispersion, disables
the compressor and turns off the A/C
system. In order to restore the air
conditioning operation, the system will
have to be disassembled and flushed to
remove any trace of contaminated oil.
In case of massive contamination, you
may even have to replace some
components of the A/C systems, as
required by some hybrid vehicles
manufacturers in the repair sheets.
9 The hybrid
function
MAHLE has developed the Hybrid
function to avoid contamination between
lubricants of different types.
