IGNITER REPLACEMENT
The igniter system on the Magnum appliances’ is an integral part of the wiring system. If the igniter is shorted out, the wiring
must be by-passed for the unit to operate. It is recommended that once a season the igniter is checked for proper operation and
replaced if it does not glow red.
Loosen the set screw (3/32” Allan wrench) so that the igniter
is loose. You will be able to slide the igniter out the back if
the end of the igniter in the firepot is not deformed. If the
igniter will not slide out the back, slide it out through the front
of the firepot cradle. You will have to clip the terminal ends
off to do this.
Take the firepot out of the unit to access the igniter end.
When installing the new igniter, make sure
the new igniter is flush with the outside of the igniter housing
tube. Do not tighten the set screw
very tight onto the igniter shaft. Barely tightening it is
enough. If you over tighten the set screw it may ruin the
igniter. Crimp on the terminal ends and attach the terminal
ends onto the wiring harness. If you do not have a terminal
crimping tool, you will need to get one from a hardware store.
Igniters are a consumable item and will need to be replaced
periodically.
Access to the igniter can be
made by opening up the left
side panel. The power must
be disconnected and make
sure that you do not pull on
the wiring when taking out
the circuit board.
The AC model is a little
harder to get to than the DC
Model that is shown here.
Take special care not to cut
Yourself or damage wiring.
Igniter
Wire terminals
Use a couple pliers or needle
nose pliers to take the wire
terminals apart. Be careful
not to pull the wire out of the
terminal ends as they are
tight.
