Mixing
Single
and
Multi
‐
mode
fiber
in
one
system:
Since
Voyager
transmitters
and
receivers
support
a
daisy
‐
chained
configuration,
each
fiber
‐
optic
link
can
be
chosen
to
use
either
single
‐
or
multi
‐
mode
fiber,
depending
on
the
required
distance
for
that
leg
of
the
link.
It
is
sometimes
possible,
though
not
recommended
,
to
us
multi
‐
mode
fiber
with
single
‐
mode
fiber
‐
optic
modules,
and
single
‐
mode
fiber
with
multi
‐
mode
fiber
‐
optic
modules.
The
extension
range
will
be
severely
limited
‐
probably
on
the
order
of
200m
or
less.
Again,
this
intermixing
of
fiber
‐
types
and
optics
‐
types
is
NOT
RECOMMENDED
and
will
not
be
officially
supported
by
Magenta.
However,
for
very
short
fiber
lengths
(10
‐
20m)
in
a
lab
‐
bench
test
for
evaluation
only,
it
is
common
to
use
the
“wrong”
type
of
fiber.
