Evaluation of Hearing with a Pure Tone Audiometer
3.7.1 General about Air and Bone Conduction
Hearing threshold levels can be determined by air conduction and bone conduction
testing. In air conduction audiometry the test signal is presented to the patient via
earphones. In bone conduction audiometry the test signal is presented via a bone
vibrator placed on the mastoid or forehead of the patient. It is recommended to start
threshold testing with air conduction first, followed by bone conduction testing. (Just
