Maintenance

Hitching to a Tow Vehicle

1. 

Keep inner jack leg 

(Fig.8A)

 clean and free from dirt and 

debris.

2. 

Occasionally spray inner jack leg 

(Fig. 8A)

 with a dry 

silicone lubricant.

Unhitching from a Tow Vehicle

1. 

Chock the tires of the trailer.

2. 

Make sure the ground surface under the Sidewinder 

Tongue jack is firm and level. 

3. 

Rotate the crank handle clockwise to extend the jack leg 

to the ground.

4. 

Unlatch the trailer coupler.

5. 

Disconnect and store any wires, chains or sway control 

that may be equipped between the tow vehicle and         

the trailer.

6. 

Rotate the crank handle clockwise or counterclockwise 

as needed to adjust the height of the coupler so the ball 

can be pulled away safely.

7. 

Move the tow vehicle a safe distance away from  

the trailer.

8. 

Rotate the crank handle clockwise or counterclockwise 

as needed to level the trailer.

FAILURE TO RETRACT ALL JACKS PRIOR TO 

TRAVEL MAY RESULT IN SEVERE PRODUCT AND 

UNIT DAMAGE, INCLUDING SERIOUS PERSONAL 

INJURY OR DEATH TO PEOPLE AND PETS. MAKE 

SURE ALL JACKS ARE RETRACTED PRIOR TO 

TRAVEL.

1. 

Chock the tires of the trailer. 

2. 

Rotate the crank handle clockwise to extend the jack, 

lifting the coupler above the ball of the tow vehicle hitch.

3. 

Back up the tow vehicle slowly until the ball hitch is 

directly underneath the coupler.

NOTE: 

Assistance may be required to ensure ball and 

hitch align properly for coupling.

4. 

Rotate the crank handle in a counterclockwise direction 

to retract the jack leg.  

NOTE: 

Make sure the jack is fully retracted                 

before proceeding.

5. 

Latch the tow vehicle hitch and connect any wires, 

chains or sway control that may be equipped between the 

tow vehicle and the trailer.

6. 

Remove the tire chocks.
