6 - BiSS B-mode interface

SMA1 is a Slave device and complies with the “BiSS B-mode interface” and the
“Standard encoder profile”.
For detailed information not listed in this manual please refer to the official
BiSS website (www.biss-interface.com).
The sensor is designed to operate in a point-to-point configuration and has to
be installed in a “single Master, single Slave” network.
WARNING
Never connect the sensor in a “single Master - Multi Slave” network.
CLOCK MA and DATA SLO signal levels comply with the “EIA standard RS-422”.
6.1 XML file
The product is supplied with an XML file

Install the XML file in your BiSS Master device.
6.2 Communication
The BiSS B-mode protocol uses two types of data transmission protocols:
Register Mode:
this is used to read data from or write data to the registers
of the Slave. See the section “6.3 Register Mode” on page 20.
Sensor mode:
this is used to transfer process data from the Slave device to
the Master device. See the section “6.4 Sensor mode” on page 21.
6.3 Register Mode

Register address

This is the address of the register; it specifies the register you need to read from
or write to.
