line is a normal "adhesion" rail-
way for 7.5 km (4.7 mi) to Grain-
au. From Grainau, geared "rack"
locos are used to climb grades up
to 25% for another 11.2 km (7.0
mi) to the final station at Schnee-
fernerhaus. Cableways carry tou-
rists the remaining distance to the
Zugspitze peak at 2,962 meters
(9,718 feet).

LOCOMOTIVE OPERATION
Operating Modes
This model can draw power from
an overhead catenary wire or
from the track. There is a three-
way power control switch moun-
ted inside the cab (Fig. 1):
Position 0: loco parked with all
power off
Position 1: power from catenary
wire, lights on
Position 2: power from the track,
lights on (factory pre-
set)
CAUTION! If this model is equip-
ped with a Multi-Train System
decoder, do not operate this
model with catenary power. Ope-
rate decoder equipped locos with
track power only.
Catenary Operation (Fig. 2)
Connect the red terminal of the
power supply to the "Standard"
Catenary Mast with Wire (56401)
or the connection screw on any
"Model" catenary mast. Connect
the blue terminal of the power
supply to the uninterrupted "com-
mon" rail of the track.
The bottom of this loco is marked
with a red dot. Place the loco on
the track with the red dot pointing
to the rail that is not connected to
the catenary power supply.
When the power control switch is
set for catenary power, the cur-
rent flows from the power supply
via the catenary wire to the motor
of the model. It returns via the
common rail to the power supply.
When the power control switch is
set for track power, the current
flows via the rail to the motor and
returns to the power supply via
the common rail.
Multi-Train System
This model has a "D" gearbox and
decoder interface. It can be equip-
ped with an LGB/Lenz Multi-Train
System Decoder (55020) using a
Decoder Interface Cable (55026).
