Input Power Limitation:
An optional input power limit may be set via
Levitronix
®
Service Software
or
Modbus protocol. If set, actual acceleration rate and/or maximum speed are reduced dynamically such
that the specified limit is not exceeded (±10 W tolerance). The extent to which they are reduced
depends on the power limit as well as the operating point. The dashed line in
example for 120 W at operating point with maximum power consumption. The fan accelerates with
8000 rpm / s up to 5000 rpm, then gradually reduces the acceleration rate to prevent further increase
in input power. The maximum reachable speed in this operating point at 120 W input power is around
10500 rpm (see also steady state consumption,
3.1.2 Power Supply
It is highly recommended to evaluate used power supplies under demanding operating situations like fast
braking from maximum speed and during power on and take-off of the fan rotor.
The power rating of the supply may be chosen according to the desired operating point / maximum speed /
number of fans per supply

with according speed and/or input power
limitations. Please note that only the general functionality of the
BFS-i06
in combination with the given supplies
was tested, and no recommendations in terms of reliability, efficiency, certifications, cost effectiveness or
similar are given.

The following power supplies were tested but failed to recover the DC voltage quick enough during fast braking
and accelerating tests, triggering a shutdown to error state on the fan:

3.1.3 Inrush Current
The
BFS-i06
bearingless fan relies on the inrush current limiter of the power supply and does not have a built-
in inrush current limiter. Therefore, high inrush currents may occur if the fan is directly connected to an already
powered DC socket. These high inrush currents might disturb certain power supplies.
A peak value of 150 A with an I
2
t value of 2.9 A
2
s was measured by hot-plugging the BFS-i06 with 5 m cable
length to a 480 W power supply. It is therefore recommended to connect the bearingless fan to the power
supply BEFORE powering up the supply.
