Chapter 7. Component service and replacement
considerations
The ThinkAgile SXM components are precisely configured to provide the necessary product-level
functionality. Before attempting to service, replace, or reinstall any hardware and software component, you
should review the relevant topic to ensure that you are aware of any specific procedures or requirements.
Replacing switches
To replace a switch in a ThinkAgile SXM product, you need to ensure that the firmware on the switch is at the
level of firmware supported for the product, set the IP address for the switch, and apply the configuration for
the switch.
Important:
This information applies to all ThinkAgile SXM models, but might not be applicable to other
products or usage scenarios.
Removing a switch
If possible, before removing the currently installed switch from the rack, un-manage the switch in Hyper-V.
Installing a replacement switch
1. Remove all cables from the switch, then remove it from the rack.
2. Install the new switch into the rack.
3. Connect the switch power cables.
4. Power on the new switch.
5. Cable the switch according to the point-to-point diagrams and tables.
6. Check the firmware level for the switch.
To determine the current version of firmware on the switch, use the Industry Standard CLI (ISCLI)
command
show version brief
. For information about the ISCLI, refer to the
ISCLI–Industry Standard CLI
Command Reference
for the switch that you are replacing.
7. If the firmware level is not at the Best Recipe level, update the firmware.
See Chapter 6 “Firmware maintenance and Best Recipe” on page 13 for more information.
8. Set the IP address, according to the information from the deployment worksheet.
9. Apply the configuration for the switch.
The switch configuration files are located in the
C:\lenovo
folder on the System x3550 M5 HLH.
Replacing servers
ThinkAgile SXM products require specific configuration of the HLH and server nodes. Use the following tips
to help ensure successful server replacement.
Important:
This information applies to all ThinkAgile SXM models, but might not be applicable to other
products or usage scenarios.
System x3550 M5 replacement
When replacing the System x3550 M5 HLH, do the following:
1. If Lenovo XClarity Administrator is still accessible, unmanage all System x3650 M5 nodes.
2. If the System x3550 M5 OS is still accessible, copy the
C:\lenovo
folder to a USB drive for restoration.
