The NVMe PCIe SSD Extender Adapter is a PCIe adapter that simply routes the PCIe 3.0 x8 signal from
the slot in the Storage Book, splits the signal to two x4 links, and routes those via cables to the drive
backplane. The extender adapter is shown in the following figure.
One adapter is required for every two drives installed in the Storage Book. Since there are only two PCIe
slots in the Compute Book, only two adapters can be installed and therefore only four NVMe drives can be
installed in a Storage Book.
