7.4 Decalcifying the water heater and how to replace the anode

1.  Take the power cable out of the power socket
2.  GREENLINE: remove housing with signal lamp and temperature control ( Part 4 on picture

2.2.1 and 2.2.2) underneath of the electric water heater and take of the temperature knob.
ECOWAY: remove casing with driver (Part 4 on picture 2.1)

3.  Once you have taken of the housing/ casing you will see a round disk (a flange) fitted with

bolts

4.  Close the stopcock on the mains water supply line
5.  Drain the electric water heater through the cold water inlet side (BLUE marking). See how to

drain the water heater in chapter 7.2: Draining the water heater how to drain the water heater

6.  Remove the thermostat (with the thermal cut-out) from the flange
7.  Loosen the bolts of the flange to separate the flange (with heater element and anode attached

to it) from the tank.

8.  Now remove the electric heater element and the anode from the flange by loosening the bolts

that fix both to the flange.

9.  Remove any incrustation from the electric heater element with a steel brush. You can also

soak it overnight, in a bucket of kitchen grade vinegar. Replace the anode.

10.  Fix the cleaned heater element and the new anode with the bolts to the flange. Put the flange

aside

11.  Use a water hose to rinse out any limescale from  inside the tank. Alternatively take the water

heater from the wall, place the unit in the bathtub or in the shower and use the shower hose to
rinse out any limescale from inside the tank

12.  Once the tank is cleaned fix the flange with heater element and anode back on the tank.

Replace the rubber between the flange and the tank. Tighten the bolts of the flange to attach
the flange to the tank.

13.  Put the thermostat onto the flange
14.  Close the cover and put temperature knob back onto the cover and the thermostat
15.  Now hang the water heater back on the wall
16.  Reinstall the pipe or flexible hose to the hot water outlet side (RED marking), attach the

pressure relief valve to the cold water inlet side (BLUE marking) and reinstall the pipe or
flexible hose (with a stopcock) that connects the mains water supply line to the pressure relief
valve.

17.  Fully open the stopcock on the mains water supply line to refill the tank. Meanwhile open a

warm water tap. The unit is entirely fillled once the water flows out from the tap in forceful,
uninterrupted jet.

18.  Only then switch the power back on.

8.
