processed in the exactly opposite phase. Signals in opposite phases usually cancel one another.
However, through the set-up of the EKAPPA15 relative to the satellite speakers, it is possible that
different propagation delays may result, which may give rise to a phase shift of 180 degrees. This
would cause cancellation of the signal in the bass range. In this case, setting the switch to the
REV180 position to effect a further 180-degree phase shift brings the signal back into phase and
prevents cancellation of the signal. TIP: Leave the PHASE switch initially in the NORMAL position.
This will probably be the correct choice if the satellite speaker is positioned above the EKAPPA15 with
the aid of a speaker pole. Otherwise you should put your system into operation and, for instance,
using a piece of music played back via CD, decide which setting results in a more powerful sound. For
such purposes, the human ear is an ideal measuring instrument. Moreover, no direct damage to the
system can result from the use of an ‘incorrect’ PHASE switch setting.
Alternative set-up with LDE122 (A), LDPN152(A) und LDPN122(A)
Due to their size, the ‘large’ LD Systems speakers with 12" and especially 15" speakers are certainly
equipped to reproduce bass frequencies at reasonable volumes. As already mentioned above, in this
case the subwoofer can reduce the load in the low-frequency range or "thicken" the bass. In this
situation it makes sense not to use the HIGH PASS output, which clips the bass, but instead to
connect the speakers to the THRU OUTPUT, which transmits the entire frequency spectrum. The
ASUB 15 then further intensifies the low frequencies. Active speakers can be connected directly, while
passive speakers must be connected via an additional power amplifier.
Fan
The built-in fan for cooling the power amplifier is temperature-controlled. It is turned on only when a
certain threshold temperature has been exceeded.
