Standard Clevis Hitch Hook-up
WARNING
!
To avoid serious injury or death:
•
Lightweight tractors with rear attached implements may
need weights added to the front to maintain steering control.
Consult your tractor Operator’s Manual to determine
weight requirements and maximum limitations.
•
The ball detent pin must be fully inserted into the park jack
with ball visible and popped out on the far side of the jack
before working on or around an unhooked cutter.
Refer to Refer to Figure 1-8:
1. Make certain park jack (#3) is properly attached to
the cutter hitch and secured with ball detent pin (#8).
2. If park jack angle is not vertical attached to the cutter
hitch, make adjustments to the jack using
“Park Jack
Angle Alignment” instructions on page 28.
3. Store center 3-point link in the tractor’s storage hook.
4. Start tractor, raise 3-point arms fully up.
5. Back tractor within close proximity of clevis (#9).
6. Shut tractor down properly before dismounting. Refer
to
“Tractor Shutdown Procedure” on this page.
7. Verify tractor drawbar is adjusted correctly using
“Drawbar Set-up” dimensions on page 14. If
needed, adjust tractor drawbar horizontally and
vertically.
8. Raise or lower park jack (#3) to align clevis (#9) with
tractor drawbar. Drawbar should fit between lower
and upper plates of clevis.
9. Restart tractor and continue to back tractor up to
cutter hitch until holes in tractor drawbar and clevis
hitch (#9) are aligned.
10. Shut tractor down properly before dismounting.
11. Customer to supply hitch pin and hairpin cotter.
Insert hitch pin (#1) through top hole in clevis (#9),
tractor drawbar, and out through bottom hole in
clevis. If bolt (#12) is removed, add an equal number
of flat washers (#11) above and below the drawbar to
remove excess gap between drawbar and clevis
hitch plates.
12. Secure hitch pin (#1) with hairpin cotter (#2).
13. Lower cutter hitch with park jack (#3) until hitch
weight is supported by the tractor drawbar.
14. Remove park jack (#3) from hitch and attach it to the
left-hand wing storage base with ball detent pin (#8).
Make sure jack is stored with its base level or lower
than the head especially after the wings are folded
up. See cover picture for correct positioning.
15. Attach hitch safety chain (#4) to tractor. Adjust chain
length to remove all slack except what is necessary
to permit turning. Lock chain hook securely to the
safety chain.
16. Continue with “Hydraulic Hook-up” on page 20 and
“Driveline Installation” on page 21.
NOTE: The 5/8" bolt (#12) and spacer (#13) may be
removed for more flexibility of the hitch. If bolt and
spacer are removed, an equal number of customer
supplied flat washers (#11) should be added above
drawbar and below drawbar to remove gap between
drawbar and clevis hitch. This will help reduce
drawbar and hitch ware.
IMPORTANT: Before moving the cutter, relocate
park jack by storing it on the left wing deck. Make
sure the jack is stored with its base level or lower
than the head to prevent water and freeze damage.
