Transporting
Refer to Figure 3-1:
WARNING
!
To avoid serious injury or death:
•
When transporting the flail mower, always disengage the
power take-off to disable all the functions of the flail mower.
•
Avoid contact with overhead utility lines or electrically
charged conductions when transporting with the flail head
rotated vertical.
•
When traveling on public roadways, travel in such a way
that faster moving vehicles may pass safely. Use accessory
lights, clean reflectors, and a slow moving vehicle sign that
is visible from the back to warn operators in other vehicles
of your presence. Always comply with all federal, state, and
•
All lighting, signals, signs and protective devices must be
correctly fitted and operating.
•
Check that the width and weight of the flail mower complies
with the maximum permissible legal width and weight of
agricultural machinery for transporting on public roads.
•
The steering capability of the tractor must not be restricted;
the steering axle must be loaded with sufficient weight, even
with the flail mower in the folded position.
•
T
ransport on public roads with the Offset Fail Mower
centered behind the tractor and transport chain installed
correctly to secure the flail head from moving off center.
•
Always keep a safe distance from obstructions. The
implement can extend beyond tractor tires. Hitting solid
objects with the implement can cause the tractor to pivot
violently resulting in loss of control.
•
Reduce ground speed when turning and leave enough
clearance to avoid making contact with obstacles such as
buildings, trees, fences, etc.
•
Do not operate and/or travel across inclines where the
tractor and/or implement can rollover. Consult your
tractor’s manual for acceptable inclines the tractor is
•
Drive carefully and moderate your speed on rough roads.
Take curves with caution in order to avoid compromising
the machine's stability.
•
Make sure implement does not block tractor’s Slow Moving
Vehicle (SMV) sign when transporting on a public road. If
operators in vehicles approaching from the back cannot
easily see the sign, then install one on the implement that is
visible to warn of your presence.

IMPORTANT:
•
Always disengage the power take-off before raising
the mower off the ground.
•
The lateral cylinder must always be set to not float.
•
The incline cylinder must be set to not float before
raising the mower off the ground and remain in the
non-float setting while the flail is off the ground.
Chain Adjustment

1. The driver of the tractor must comply with all federal,
state, and local laws.
2. Before raising the mower to transport, make sure:
•
The tractor's power take-off is disengaged.
•
The incline cylinder is set to not float.
3. Raise the flail mower to transport position.
4. Center the flail head behind the tractor with the
lateral cylinder to reduce the overall width of the
tractor/flail mower combination when driving on the
road. The tractor lights and signals must also be
clearly visible and unobstructed.
5. If the flail mower is loaded onto a truck or trailer,
ensure that all parts are positioned safely and
mechanically immobilized to prevent the risk of
damage or danger.

The flail mower, when attached
to a tractor, may be transported either horizontally as
shown in Figure 3-1 or vertically as shown in
Figure 1-13 on page 20. In both cases, secure the
flail mower with transport chain (#1) as follows:
a. Fully retract lateral cylinder (#4).
b. Attach the lower end of chain (#1) to the flail head
with spring pin (#2).
c. Remove all slack in the chain and pin the
appropriate link in the opposite end of the chain to
clip (#3) on the 3-point hitch frame.

IMPORTANT:
Pin the chain to the 3-point hitch
frame through the appropriate chain link to ensure
the chain has minimal slack before transporting.
