____________ = leading edge of MAC
Step 1: Establishing Fuselage Stations
The first thing we need to do is to record the locations of the nose gear and the
main gear, and the leading edge of the wing at BL 27.
a)
Level the aircraft by leveling the longerons. Pick a spot close to the the
center of the longerons where they are the straightest. Use a SMART level
or similar tool to level the airplane. Normally you will have to raise the tail
somewhat to level the aircraft. At the same time, secure the aircraft so it will
not move.
b) Start by establishing the aircraft centerline on the floor. Plumb bob off the
center of the firewall and then plumb off the center of the fuselage as far aft
as possible. Connect the marks to form the aircraft centerline.
c)
The starting fuselage station reference is the firewall joggle. Drop a plumb
bob off the left and right side of the fuselage to create reference marks on the
floor. Connect with a line. This represents FS (fuselage station) 64.625.
d) Nose gear: drop a plumb bob off the center of the nose gear axle.
e)
Main gear: drop a plumb bob off the center of both the main gear axles. Snap
a chalk line between the two axles.
f)
At (BL) butt line 27 drop a plumb bob off the leading edge of the wing on
each side. Again connect the dots to form the reference from which the MAC
(mean aerodynamic chord) will be established.
