4. RECORDER INDEPENDENT POWER SUPPLY (RIPS) MODULE
The Recorder Independent Power Supply provides for power to the recorder for up
to 10 minutes in the event of primary and 28VDC aircraft power loss. The
RIPS unit can be fully charged in 15 minutes.
The optional RIPS battery pack is available as a separate unit, P/N: 500

from the FA5000CVDR. The RIPS Module does not contain hazardous material

its
battery is lead-acid with no Lithium content.
The RIPS Module is a sealed, on-demand maintenance item and is NOT field re-
pairable. Replacement of the module’s battery requires replacement of the entire
RIPS Module. No regular maintenance is required.
A. RIPS Shelf Life
The RIPS requires inspection/servicing as it reaches one year of storage. Refer to
Section E. Condition RIPS Module After Expired Shelf Life (One Year in Storage)
B. RIPS Module Connector Cover
The FA5000 Connector Cover is to be installed on the Connector when the RIPS
Module is not installed.
After RIPS Module is removed, the FA5000CVDR Connector Cover must be in-
stalled. Torque FA5000CVDR Connector Cover screws from 4.5 to 5.2 in-lbs.
NOTE:
When the FA5000CVDR is initially shipped from the factory,
the Connector Cover is not installed, but it is in the shipping
container. Do not discard this Connector Cover.
C. RIPS Module Connector Cap
The RIPS Module Connector Cap is to be installed on the RIPS Connector when not
installed on the FA5000CVDR.
NOTE:
When the RIPS is initially shipped from the factory, the RIPS
Connector Cap (L3AP P/N: 027E5722
−
00) is installed on the
RIPS Connector. Do not discard after removing the cap.
