CLEANING AND STORAGE
9.1. CLEANING YOUR ATV
Frequent and thorough cleaning of your ATV will not only
enhance its appearance but will improve its general
performance and extend the useful life of many components.
Additionally, thorough cleaning will help you to become familiar
with your ATV and you will be able to recognize changes in its
condition that will alert you that the vehicle requires service or
repairs. This will assist you in making sure your ATV is safe for
you and others to operate.
A.
Before cleaning the ATV:
a.
Block the end of the exhaust pipe to prevent water
entry. Use a commercially available, tapered
rubber plug or a plastic bag with a strong rubber
band to cover the end of the exhaust.
b.
Make sure the spark plug and all fluid/oil filler caps
are properly installed.
c.
Remove any items, such as the tool kit or Owner’s
Manual that could be damaged by water during
cleaning. After cleaning, stow these items in plastic
bags within the storage compartments.
B.
If the engine case is excessively dirty or greasy, apply
degreaser with a paint brush. Do not apply degreaser to
the drive chain and sprockets (if equipped) or the wheel
axles.
