Assist Chain System: Important Safety Information

KVAL Manual
Process to Lower the Lift
1.
While the machine is powered on, manually lower the lifting assembly to a safe,
solid support that is elevated approximately 6.0" from the ground.
2.
Power down the machine in accordance with this manual. Turn the main electrical
panel switch to
"Off"
and perform Lockout/Tagout. Turn the master air valve to
exhaust (EXT) and Lockout/Tagout the red handle.
Note:
Up at the buffer air tank, there is an additional air exhaust valve. This manual
valve evacuates all air from the
Air Assist Chain System
, which places the
entire lift assembly load on the lift chain brake.
3.
Ensure the space below the lift assembly is clear of any potential crushing or pinch
-
ing. Climb up to the air tank, then turn the air exhaust valve to exhaust (EXT) to
remove pressured air from the system
.
4.
As the tank pressure falls, the air assist cylinders should extend (relax) and a small
amount of slack in the assist chain should form. If there is still tension in the chain
system, inspect for any binding. Remedy any tension before proceeding.
5.
With no tension in the assist chain and the lifting assembly fully supported, the Air
Assist Chain System is ready for maintenance.
6.
After maintenance is performed, inspect the assist chain for any binding potential
before returning air to the machine and to the
Air Assist Chain System
.
Note:
In rare cases, excess chain slack may need to be safely guided as the assist
cylinders retract and return to a load-bearing state.
Turn to EXT
