Deleting the Backing
Sequences
If you don’t mind losing the backing sequence and
you need space in memory, you can delete it. The
backing sequences use up space in memory, taking it
away from other data (e.g. songs in Song Edit, other
backing sequences).

Press B.SEQ to enter the Backing Sequence
mode.

Press PAGE [+] repeatedly to get to “Page 3:
Erase Backing Sequence” in the Backing
Sequence mode.

Press ENTER/YES twice to delete the backing
sequence from memory.

Press EXIT/NO to go back to the first page of
the Backing Sequence mode.
Suggestion:
You can delete all the backing
sequences at once, by turning the instrument off and
on.
The Songs
What are the Songs?
The songs are musical pieces with sixteen tracks that
can be saved on disk in the form of Standard MIDI File
(SMF). There are two operative modes dedicated to the
songs: the first one is used to read the songs live (Song
Play) and the second one is used to create new songs
or edit the existing songs (Song Edit).
Unlike the backing sequences, the songs are made up
of completely free tracks that cannot be created with
the arrangements. You can however convert a backing
sequence into a standard song (see “Page 18: SMF con-
verter” on page 115).
The iS35 is compatible with most of the songs availa-
ble on the market. You can read the songs created with
a computer sequencer with the iS35, and vice versa.
To read a song created with the computer with the
iS35, you need to save the song of the external
sequencer in Standard MIDI File format, copy it in a
disk in MS-DOS® format (also compatible with Win-
dows™, Macintosh® and other systems), and insert
the disk into the iS35 drive. You can now listen to the
song in the Song Play or Song Edit modes.
In order to read the iS35 songs with a computer, the
external sequencer must be capable of reading the
Standard MIDI File (SMF) 0 (zero) or 1 (one) format
used by the iS35 sequencer. For information on how to
save the song in one of these formats, see “2. Save” on
page 144.
Recording a song
In the Song Edit mode you can record a new song
freely and save it on disk as a Standard MIDI File
(SMF).

Press SONG EDIT to enter the Song Edit mode.

Press PAGE [+] to go to Page 2.

Select the track to be recorded with the buttons
of the VOLUME/PROGRAM section. Use the TRK
SELECT button to switch from tracks 1-8 to 9-16.

Whilst on Page 2, press REC/WRITE/LYRICS to
enter the recording mode.

If the iS35 is played with an external MIDI con-
troller, the MIDI controller must be programmed
