The m o d e l
is a v e n t u r i a n d nozzle type s t r a i g h t g a s c a r b u r e t o r s u i t a b l e f o r u s e with N a t u r a l
g a s and L P G . T h i s c a r b u r e t o r i s u s u a l l y u s e d with the Model B s e c o n d a r y r e g u l a t o r ( K o h l e r #A- 265082)
a n d with idle and b a l a n c e l i n e connections.
Operation: The c a r b u r e t o r f e a t u r e s a s e p a r a t e
s y s t e m f o r e n r i c h i n g the f u e l m i x t u r e d u r i n g s t a r t -
ing. When the choke p l a t e i s c l o s e d , g a s f l o w s t h r u the s p e c i a l s t a r t i n g o r i f i c e s . T h e s t a r t i n g m i x t u r e
c a n b e v a r i e d t o f a c i l i t a t e e a s y s t a r t i n g i n changing w e a t h e r conditions by m e a n s of the s t a r t i n g a d j u s t -
m e n t s c r e w . Since the m a i n f u e l s y s t e m i s blocked a n d the engine o p e r a t e s o n the
s t a r t i n g
m i x t u r e when the choke p l a t e i s c l o s e d , the choke m u s t b e r e t u r n e d t o the full o p e n p o s i t i o n soon a f t e r
the engine s t a r t s . T h e choke p l a t e i s s t r i c t l y a two p o s i t i o n d e v i c e with no i n t e r m e d i a t e p o s i t i o n s - - i t
i s e i t h e r i n f u l l open o r f u l l c l o s e d p o s i t i o n s .
When the choke
is
opened and the t h r o t t l e p l a t e
is
a d v a n c e d beyond the idle s p e e d r a n g e , g a s
e n t e r s the c a r b u r e t o r t h r u the g a s n o z z l e i n volume p r o p o r t i o n a t e t o the v e l o c i t y of a i r t h r o u g h the
v e n t u r i . The v e l o c i t y i s , in t u r n , c o n t r o l l e d
p o s i t i o n of the t h r o t t l e plate.
The b a l a n c e line c o m -
p e n s a t e s f o r r e s t r i c t i o n s ,
clogged a i r c l e a n e r , t o k e e p t h e f u e l - a i r r a t i o c o n s t a n t . When the
t h r o t t l e i s r e t u r n e d t o the idle p o s i t i o n , the velocity of a i r m a y not b e sufficient t o induce enough g a s
t o s u s t a i n o p e r a t i o n .
The KG1 c a r b u r e t o r h a s a s e p a r a t e idle f u e l s y s t e m which a l l o w s continued
o p e r a t i o n a t s l o w i d l e s p e e d s .
