Disassembly
Turn Fuel Shut-Off Valve to Off Position

3. Remove the exhaust gasket from the outlet.
Remove Air Cleaner Assembly
Remove the air cleaner components from the air
cleaner base as outlined in Section 4.
Remove the air cleaner base from engine as follows:
1. Remove the hex flange screw(s) securing the air
cleaner base to the mounting bracket(s), based on
the specific model involved. See Figures 9-5, 9-6,
and 9-7.

Drain Oil From Crankcase
1. Remove one of the oil drain plugs and one of the
oil fill caps.

2. Allow ample time for the oil to drain from the
crankcase.
3. On engines with a 2:1 reduction system, tip the
engine toward the flywheel to drain most of the
oil out of the reduction housing; then drain out of
the crankcase.
Remove Muffler and Heat Shield
Assembly
1. Remove the hex nuts from the exhaust studs and
the hex flange screw from the muffler bracket.
2. Remove the muffler assembly from the exhaust
outlet.
