OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
To start the mower
a. Attach the KOBALT battery pack to the mower and close the battery-compartment cover (H).
b. Depress the safety button (D).
c. With the safety button depressed, pull the bail switch (A) upward to meet the handle and
release the safety button.
d. The mower will start.
To stop the mower
a. Fully release the bail switch (A).
b. The electric brake will stop the blade rotation within 3 seconds of the bail switch release.
10 Variable-Speed Self-Propel System
The mower features variable-speed self-propel
capability. This system is independent of the
mower blade operation – the blade motor doesn’t
have to be ON for the mower to self-propel. For
example, when you have completed cutting your
lawn, you can use the self-propel function to propel
the mower back to your storage location with no
blade rotation. Or you may choose to operate the
mower as a non-self-propelled mower to maximize
battery run time.
To operate the self-propel system without
blade rotation,
pull the self-propel trigger (C)
towards the handle (B).
To turn the self-propel function off, release the self-propel trigger.
The system has variable speed. To increase the speed, move the self-propel-speed-control
lever (O) forward (away from the handle). To decrease the speed, move the self-propel speed-
control lever backward (towards the handle).
To operate with the blade rotating for cutting:
a. Depress the safety button (D).
b. With the safety button depressed, pull the bail switch (A) upward to the handle and release
the safety button.
c. Hold the bail switch against the handle with your left hand. Pull the self-propel trigger (C)
towards the handle with your right hand.
d. With your right hand, hold both the bail switch (A) and the self-propel trigger (C) against
the handle and use your left hand to adjust the self-propel speed-control lever (O) to the
desired speed.
When it is necessary to mow around an object, it may be easier to mow with the self-propel
system turned off.
NOTICE:
When you turn off the self-propel system, for example, at the end of a row, the
mower may become temporarily locked if you pull it backwards. Simply push the mower ahead
slightly and then move the mower as needed.
