Persistent deposits and corrosion marks
Persistent deposits, discoloration and so-called „tea staining“ can result from inadequate
cleaning, excessive cooking overflow, extreme environmental conditions and extreme
preparation. There are special stainless steel cleaners for these moments. Read the
instructions before use.
•
Always rub or brush in the direction of the surface stretch or the original polishing
lines.
•
Some stainless steel cleaners can damage painted or plastic surfaces. Read the
instructions carefully.
Cleaning and care of stainless steel
•
The stainless steel parts of this unit are made of rust-free stainless steel. In order to
preserve the external appearance and to ensure resistance to corrosion, regular
cleaning is necessary.
•
Although stainless steel does not rust in the same way as steel, it may still have
„corrosion stains“ that look very similar to rust and interfere with the exterior
appearance of the grill.
•
In contrast to steel, stainless steel corrosion is usually only superficial and can be
removed by cleaning so that the surface looks as good as new after cleaning.
•
The most common form of corrosion in stainless steel is also known as „tea staining.“
This shows up in brown spots on the surface and is therefore often confused with
rust. This form of corrosion occurs mainly in coastal areas, but may also occur in
inland areas, depending on the environment. Failure to remove „tea stains“ on a
regular basis can cause them to penetrate the material and make them very difficult
to remove. In this case, the use of metal polish is necessary.
•
When the grill is near swimming pools, special care should be taken when cleaning.
The pool chemicals contain chlorine, which can negatively affect the stainless steel.
This also applies to saltwater pools, as they contain sodium chloride.
• Chlorine bleach should never be used to clean stainless steel surfaces. If the
residues are not completely rinsed off, this can lead to severe pitting corrosion.
Pitting corrosion „eats“ this into the surface and is very difficult to remove. Extensive
polishing would then become necessary.
