CARING FOR YOUR COOKWARE
Cleaning Cookwar_e
• Exposure to heat, air and humidity can
change the appearance of copper. This
happens because the copper combines
with the oxygen in the air.
• First remove heavy residue by rinsing
with cold water while pan is still hot.
If not removed, food films will cause
discoloration on the cookware when it is
reheated.
• Clean with warm water and mild
dishwashing soap, using a sponge, nylon
pad, or dishcloth. Buff until shiny. Do not
use a dishwasher, which may damage
the surface. Do not use oven cleaners,
steel wool, harsh detergents, or chlorine
bleach.
• Copper can be easily polished with
various commercial copper cleaners.
You can also use a natural mixture of
one tablespoon of salt, one tablespoon
of white vinegar, and one tablespoon of
flour; or use one tablespoon of salt and
two tablespoons of lemon juice. Rinse in
hot soapy water and buff to keep copper
cookware shiny.
• Remove any spotted white film with a
mild solution of water and lemon juice
or vinegar.
• Wash and dry cookware quickly to
ensure a more attractive patina. Letting
the exterior soak in dishwater creates a
yellow and brown spotty pattern.
• Never use metal utensils, sharp
instruments, oven cleaners, or other
harsh abrasives that may damage or
weaken the glass.
• Glass lids may be washed in the
dishwasher. Do not place your copper
cookware in the dishwasher, which may
damage the finish. You can also wash lids
in hot, soapy water; then dry immediately
to avoid water spots.
