IV. WHEELCHAIR USE & CONFIGURATION
Q. Reclining Backrest
WARNING: Do not use the chair if the back cane is not in the operating position. Using the
chair with the back out of position could cause a fall resulting in serious injury or death.
Using the Reclining Backrest
1. To unlock the system prior to a recline or incline adjustment, remove the locking pin from the
locking hole on each recline trigger (Fig. 16:A).
2. Ensure the wheel locks are engaged and the wheelchair is on a level surface.
3. Grip the handles securely and slowly depress both of the reclining triggers at the same time
to release the gas cylinders. This will allow you to adjust the backrest position as follows:
a. Reclining - to open the angle of the backrest relative to the seat frame, or recline, apply
downward force on the gas springs.
b. Inclining - return to the upright position by applying force upward and pushing the back-
rest towards the front of the wheelchair.
4. Once the desired backrest recline angle is achieved, slowly release both reclining triggers.
5. To lock the system, insert the locking pin into the locking pin hole. Using the locks after
positioning the patient is always recommended.
