CLEANING UPHOLSTERY
Cleaning upholstery with success requires a good knowledge of the type of fabric
to be worked on. Look for the cleaning instruction label sewn on the underside
of the furniture for recommended method of cleaning the fabric. Extraction works
perfectly on most synthetic fabrics including synthetic velvets.
NOTE:
If the label calls for dry cleaning, do not attempt to clean with the wet
extraction method; otherwise, damage to the fabric could occur.
Before proceeding, test the fabric for colorfastness. Apply a small amount of
ready-to-use cleaning solution on the fabric in an inconspicuous spot. Wait for
2-3 minutes and rub the area with a white terry cloth towel. If no color comes off
onto the towel, the fabric should be safe to clean. If a little color comes off, there
is some risk of colors running when you clean. It may be possible to stabilize
colors by cleaning with an acidic rinse.
NOTE:
On KX-17THP model, adjust the pump “operating pressure” to 50 PSI or
below for upholstery cleaning (see PRESSURE ADJUSTMENT).
Prepare the machine, except attach an upholstery tool to the vacuum / solution
hose assembly.
Clean with using as little solution as possible. Make overlapping passes to
prevent streaking. Go over the area you just cleaned without depressing the lever
(vacuum only) and gauge the amount of moisture extracted through the view
window for dryness. On heavily soiled areas like arm rests, pre-treat with a
recommended pre-spray and/or hold the upholstery tool a few inches above the
fabric and press lever to spray on the solution before making a pass.
PRESSURE ADJUSTMENT (FIGURE 10)
Using the pressure adjustment and gauge on the side of the unit, adjust the pump
system to the desired “operating pressure” while the cleaning tool is on (spray-
ing).
EMPTYING THE RECOVERY BLADDER (FIG. 11)
When you run out of solution, turn off the pump. Attach the drain elbow on the
drain valve. Place a pail under the down spout and pull up the drain valve T-
handle. Dirty solution will pour out until the bladder is empty. Close the drain
valve. Use a clean bucket when you refill the solution tank.
EMPTYING THE SOLUTION TANK (FIGURE 12)
For model KX-17T, place a bucket under the drain valve. Remove the recovery
bladder fork, slide the bladder off the seal and open the drain valve.
For model KX-17THP there are two ways. The first is as mentioned above. The
second is by connecting the pump priming hose to the female fitting on the back
of the machine. Place the other end in a bucket and turn on the pump until the
tank is empty.
DRY VACUUMING
CAUTION!
Optional dry vacuuming bag must be installed or damage to
vacuum motor will occur.
Open lid and install optional dry vacuuming bag on dirty solution inlet by slipping
neck of bag around inlet, and closing the clamp tight. Attach vacuum hose to inlet
on lid, and preferred vacuuming tool on other end of hose. Plug the power cord
into a grounded outlet and turn on the vacuum switch.
CLEAN UP AND STORAGE
Store the machine in a cool dry place. Wind the extension cord in a circle and
hang on the cord hook provided on the machine. Be sure not to wind the cord
tighter than necessary.
Avoid prolonged exposure of machine to freezing temperatures during storage
or transporting.
MAINTENANCE
WARNING!
AVOID POSSIBLE INJURY OR ELECTRIC SHOCK, DISCON-
NECT THE POWER CORD FROM THE ELECTRICAL OUTLET.
•
Remove dirt and lint from the solution tank filter, vacuum lint filter, recovery
nozzle, and spray nozzle.
•
Reduce the build up of chemical residue by running 8 ounces of vinegar
for every gallon of water through the machine once a week. Be sure the
vinegar solution sprays into an appropriate bucket or drain. When finished,
run hot clean water through the machine.
CAUTION!
Do not use vinegar solution on carpet.
•
Spray quick connect coupler with WD-40 or equivalent lubricant to prevent
sticking.
•
Apply light oil on gate seals of drain valve.
