1-14 (No.YF100)
There is another type of Microdrive with red label.
These Microdrives have been shipped since April, 2005 and
they will be replacing the Microdrives (P/N: 13G1764) in the
previous page.
When 6GB Microdrive was developed, the data transfer speed
and the areal density were improved. The improvement was
also applied to 4 GB Microdrive.
For the convenience sake, define the Microdrive with P/N:
13G1764 as an old type and the Microdrive with P/N: 0A40243
as a new type.
These Microdrives correspond to the RoHS Directives which is
European law.To distinguish new and old types, look for the P/
N difference and with or without the RoHS indication. The new
and the old Microdrives are compatible although their inner
parts are different.
Remarks
"RoHS" is an abbreviation of "Restriction of the Use of Cer-
tain Hazardous Substances". The "RoHS Directives" is the
law of the regulation concerning the use of hazardous sub-
stances. The "RoHS Directives" bans the use of six sub-
stances: lead, hexavalent chromium, mercury, cadmium,
and the two of the polybrominated flame retardants, among
hazardous substances used in electrical and electronic
equipments from July 2006 in fifteen countries in European
Union (EU).
There are no equivalent regulations in Japan or in the U.S.A.
However, for the efficiency of the business activity, leading
global manufacturers tend to standardize designs and spec-
ifications following "RoHS Directives". These global manu-
facturers are speeding up in controlling the chemical
substances and developing the substitute substances. Prior
to the law enforcement in July 2006, Matsushita group in-
cluding VICTOR/ JVC introduced the RoHS corresponding
parts for the shipment from April 2005, and the service parts
will be replaced gradually.
(3) Microdrives used as built-in products of other equipments
This is a Microdrive with a white label. These Microdrives are
built internally in equipments such as PCs, PDAs, or MP3 play-
ers. Normally, these Microdrives cannot be removed from
those equipments.
Unlike the above mentioned Microdrives with blue labels, with
labels for OEM, or with red labels, these Microdrives are cus-
tomized exclusively for the housing equipments.
Therefore, it is obvious that these built-in Microdrives cannot
be operation guaranteed as they do not have compatibility with
other equipments. They might damage the connected equip-
ments at the worst.
In the past, it was introduced through internet that high capac-
ity drives could be obtained at a low price by using built-in Mi-
crodrives of MP3 players. Many built-in Microdrives were
removed to be used, but the use of this kind is restricted in the
current Microdrives by adopting certain countermeasures.
The restriction details are as follows. Built- in Microdrives are
not produced as True IDE compliant. As a result, they are not
recognized as IDE external equipments and they cannot be
used with the PCs even if they are connected to the PCs via
PCMCIA adapters.
Therefore the built-in Microdrives, except the ones that had
been produced before the countermeasure was taken, do not
operate with EVERIO.
The criteria for Microdrives with operation guarantee by
EVERIO are as follows.

2.4.7 Combinations of media and a main unit
2.4.7.1
Types of media
This unit has 2 types of slots, one for a Microdrive/ Compact
Flash card, and the other for a SD card.
From the menu, movies/ pictures/ audio can be selected for a
medium in either one of the slots.
As movies, pictures, and audio can separately select the slots,
using one slot for all recording mode is possible. However, as
movies require large capacity and high transmission speed, the
available recording mode (image quality) is limited.
