In some situations it may be advisable to fit a flue liner prior
to the installation of the stove. Your installer will advise if
this is necessary.
Note:
A guide is published by the British Flue and Chimney
manufacturers’ association gives general information on
chimneys and flues.
If any of the pre-installation checks reveal inadequacies,
do not proceed with the installation of the stove until all
defects or deficiencies have been rectified.

Safety regulations
Contact your local authorithy to inform you about the
local codes and to ensure that your installation is safe
and legal.
Distance to non-combustible wall and
requirements for the floor plate:
Distance to non-combustible wall:
The distance between
the stove and the non-combustible wall must be a
minimum of
100 mm
. There must be
a safe distance
to
any flammable materials.
Requirements for the floor plate:
If the stove will be
installed on a combustible floor, a robust, solid, non-
combustible layer should cover the floor beneath the stove.
This layer should cover an area of at least 300 mm in front
of the stove door, and at least 150 mm either side of the
opening. (See buildings regulations). We recommend that
you contact the local Jøtul dealer prior to installation.
A floor plate of enamelled cast iron can be supplied as
supplementary equipment.
Uninsulated flue pipe:
If uninsulated flue pipes go through
floors of walls, the opening must be made of brick of
masonry, in such a way that the external surface of the
pipe does not get closer to flammable materials than 300
mm. Isolated flue pipes may have a different distance, if
necessary refer to fire technical product documentation
for the flue pipe.
Measures for fire prevention
Each time you use your stove certain dangers may be
present.
The following instructions should be noted:
• Ensure that your furniture and other flammable
materials are not moved too close to the stove. There
must be a safe distance to the stove. (800 mm).
• Allow the fire to burn out. Never extinguish the flames
or ashes with water as this may damage the product.
• The stove is hot when lit, and may cause burns if
touched.
• Ash should be placed outdoors or be emptied in a place
where it will not present a potential fire hazard.
• Each stove should have a storage container made of
non-flammable material with a lid for soot and ash. Soot
and ash must be stored in this container for at least one
week in order to ensure that the last embers have been
extinguished. If the container has to be emptied before
this time, water should be poured into the container
and mixed thoroughly to ensure that all embers are
extinguished.
• Do make use of the ash. It makes an excellent fertilizer
for roses, for instance.
