SPARK PLUGS
Remove and inspect the spark plugs for the fol-
lowing conditions:
•
Worn electrodes
•
Cracked insulator
•
Dirty spark plugs
Replace all defective spark plugs.
Before installing the spark plug lead cover on the
spark plug, apply a light coating of
Electrical
Grease
to the ribbed portion of the spark plug
ceramic and to the opening of the spark plug
cover. See table below for recommended spark
plug data and gap setting.
IMPORTANT:
Use of non-suppression spark
plugs will cause ignition problems.
FLYWHEEL SERVICING
IMPORTANT:
In order to produce the voltage
necessary to run an ignition system, the flywheel
magnets must be of a particular strength. Weak
flywheel magnets can cause low ignition voltage
which would affect engine performance. Weak fly-
wheel magnets can also cause low readings on
ignition test equipment such as the peak-reading
voltmeter, which might cause unnecessary
replacement of ignition components.
An accurate test of alternator output can help
determine flywheel condition. Refer to
Removal
Remove the flywheel nut. Use a Flywheel Holding
Tool and three screws, P/N 307641, from Univer-
sal Puller Set, P/N 378103, or Flywheel Holder,
P/N 771311.
