Using Loctite make up 15mm nut & washer until there is no lateral play in the footbrake lever but
lever still moves freely up & down. A couple of drops of oil on either side of the mounting tube
may help it move freely.

Connect brass rod rear brake linkage to brake lever on hub of rear wheel & adjust. Connect rear
brake lever spring & rear brake light switch & spring as previous photo.

Assemble main foot pegs using Loctite & the spring washers & bolts provided. Mount side stand
on main foot pegs bracket using a small amount of grease on the mounting bolt & Loctite in the
nut.

Apply a very small quantity of grease to gear lever spline & mount foot gear lever using Loctite
on the bolt.

BATTERY

Peel off metal foil seal of 12V 5A dry-charged battery & carefully fill each cell to the marked top
level using the supplied acid – as per the instructions inside the battery box. Let battery stand
with caps removed for at least 1 hour (

in a secure area away from access by children or pets

).

If you get any acid on your hands immediately flush with running water. Note that 33.5%
sulphuric battery acid is highly corrosive & considerable care must be taken handling it
during battery filling & container disposal. Refer Material Safety & Data Sheet.

When filled with acid the dry-charged battery develops 60 – 70% of full charge. To bring the
battery up to 100% charged it should be trickle charged for ~24 hours at

up to

 0.5 amp. A car

battery charger may not be suitable as these are often 5 amp. During charging the battery caps
should not be installed to allow venting of produced hydrogen gas.

Remove right hand motorcycle side cover & remove battery bracket using a 10mm socket.
Connect battery leads (red lead to +ve terminal of battery, remove pink rubber cap from battery
vent & connect supplied plastic vent hose.

Install battery & retaining bracket. Make up 10mm retaining bracket bolt, ensuring the red plastic
insulator of the +ve battery lead connector is in place to avoid any short circuit. Ensure the
plastic vent hose is not crimped or folded in any way & runs thru’ to near the ground in front of
the back wheel.

NOTE

: Your NZ50 will actually run perfectly well without a battery but the electric start will not

function without the battery installed. If you choose not to install the battery before starting
engine wrap +ve (red) battery cable connector with electrical insulation tape to prevent shorting.
