CHAPTER 6
CARE OF BODY COMPONENTS
EXTERIOR ALUMINUM
The aluminum on the outside of your Jayco can be cleaned and washed the same as an
automobile finish. It is suggested that a spray wax, or wash and wax combination, be
used for waxing due to the texture of the aluminum.
EXTERIOR ROOF
The roof is constructed of Luran
®
S and can be cleaned using one of the following
cleaners applied to a soft, clean cloth: Ivory soap and water solution, Formula 409,
Windex, Spic and Span, Scrubbing Bubbles, Simple Green or Pine Sol. Clean only a
small portion at a time, rinsing off each portion as completely as possible immediately
after cleaning. For heavy cleaning use Soft Scrub, Bug and Tar remover or Oops. Rinse
these products immediately after use. Do not use Acetone, Goof Off or Isopropanol in
concentrations greater than 25%. Do not use citrus based cleaners or cleaners containing
esters, ethers, ketones, aromatic and chlorinated hydrocarbons.
CAUTION:
Instructions from the manufacturer concerning roof care are very
specific. Deviation can result in damage to the roof.
CAUTION: All roofs require maintenance. At least twice per year, inspect and
reseal all seams: front and rear, around all vents, and along all moldings. If you
notice any deterioration in the seal, scrape off any cracked or loose sealant and
reseal the area.
Examine the putty sealer tape located between the metal and skin yearly. Remove any
excess or cracked sealant or sealant that is peeling and lifting. Clean the surface and cap
seal. The trim on the lower edge of the roof is sealed internally and also has an outer cap
seal. Should outer cap seal become loose or crack reseal with Extend HD sealant.
The roof is designed to be a floating roof. Contraction may occur when taking a cold unit
into a warm environment. This is a normal occurance and the roof will contract back to
its original shape when the interior and exterior temperatures of the unit are even. If the
roof appears to not line up with the walls of the unit, unlatch the corner latches, adjust the
roof so that it is even with the sidewalls and latch the corner latches.
END CAPS
Fiberglass endcaps are very durable and are easy to maintain. Wax and buff them once
per year. Standard automotive cleaning soaps and waxes work well for general cleaning
and maintenance. Special cleaners and waxes are available at automotive and RV stores.
Scratches and dents can be fixed easily by an experienced fiberglass repair shop. Any
major damage should be repaired as soon as possible to prevent cracks from becoming
larger.
