3.10 PARKING BRAKE__________________________________________________________
1. Check linkage cables and pivots to ensure they are
operating smoothly.
2. Park the m ower on a 30 % slope ( 16.7°) nea r th e
bottom of the hill, with the front of the mower facing
downhill. E ngage t he par king brake a nd s top th e
engine.

creeping.
b. If t he brakes do no t h old, s tart t he engine,
disengage the brake, and dr ive to the bo ttom of
the hill.
3. With parking brake disengaged, turn adjusting knob
in a c lockwise di rection, applying a nd releasing
brake ev ery quarter tur n, u ntil a defi nite “ snap ov er
center” action is achieved.
4. Repeat the test on the hill if required.
Note:
Over adjustment causes hard lever action, but
does not increase brake efficiency.
3.11 REAR LIFT ARM ___________________________________________________________
1. Rear li ft arm pos ition is properly adj usted when the
rear m ower bumpers a re p utting slight pressure
against the underside of the foot rests.

3.12 DOWN PRESSURE _________________________________________________________
1. Place mowers in the Fixed Mode (
Section 3.18
) and
lower the mowers onto a sc ale, capable of weighing
250 lb. (113 kg). The rear roller of t he mower must
rest on the scale.
2. To adj ust pr essure o n r ear mo wer l oosen n uts (

3. To adjust pressure on front mowers, loosen nut (

should be 1/2 in. (13 mm).
4. To maintain a co nsistent hei ght of cut, the dow n
pressure s hould be ad justed e venly o n a ll thr ee
mowers.
5. Jacobsen, recommends the mo wer wei ght for
Floating Mode at 6 0 lb. (27 kg), and for Fixed Mode
at 90 lb. (41 kg).
