4.20 STORAGE ________________________________________________________________
General
1. Wash the mower thoroughly and lubri cate. Repair and
paint damaged or exposed metal.
2. Inspect the mower , tighten all har dware, replace w orn
or damaged components.
3. Drain and refill radiator.
4. Clean the t ires thoroughly and store the mower s o the
load is of f the tires. If mower is not on jack s tands,
check tires at regular interv
als and reinfl ate as
necessary.
5. Keep the mac hine and al l i ts ac cessories c lean, dry ,
and protected from the elements during storage. Never
store equipment near an open fl ame or s park whi ch
could ignite fuel or fuel vapors.
Battery
1. Remove, clean, and store battery in upright position in a
cool, dry place.
2. Check and recharge battery every 60 to 90 days while
in storage.
3. Store batteries in a c ool, dry place. To reduce the s elf
discharge rate, room temperatur e should not be abov e
80°F (27°C) or fal l below 20°F (-
7°C) to prev ent
electrolyte from freezing.
Engine (General)
1. While the engine is warm, remove the drain plug, drain
the oil from the c rankcase, and c hange oil filter. Install
drain plug and refill with fresh oil. Let engine cool before
starting.
2. Clean exterior of engine. Paint exposed metal, or apply
a light coat of rust preventative oil.
3. Add a fu el co nditioner or bi ocide to p revent ge lling
or ba cterial gr owth i n fu el. See y our l ocal fuel
supplier.
Cutting Units
1. Wash the cutting units thoroughly, then repair and paint
any damaged or exposed metal.
2. Lubricate all fittings and friction points.
3. Backlap th e reels th en bac k the reel away from the
bedknife. Apply a light c oat of rus t prev entative oil to
the sharpened edges of the reel and bedknife.
After Storage
1. Check and reinstall battery.
2. Check or service fuel filter and air cleaner.
3. Check the radiator coolant level.
4. Check oil l evel i n t he engi ne c rankcase and hydraulic
system.
5. Fill the fuel tank with fresh fuel. Bleed the fuel system.
6. Make certain that the tires are properly inflated.
7. Remove all oi l from the r eels and bedk nife. Adj ust
bedknife and cutting height.
8. Start and operate the engine at 1/2 throttle. Allow
enough tim e for the engine to become pr operly
warmed and lubricated.
CAUTION
To prevent personal injury and damage to th e cutting
edges, handle the reel with extreme care
WARNING
Never operate the engine without proper
v entilation;
exhaust fumes can be fatal when inhaled.
