It is essential that a sufficient number of stand-by pumps are kept ready for use in plants where
failure of a pump could endanger human life or cause damage to property or high costs. Regu-
lar checks should be carried out to ensure that such pumps are always ready for use (see Stor-
age / longer periods of non-operation).
