Understanding the Interface Between ODU and IDU
The IDU provides isolated 48 volts to operate the transceiver and digital base-band processor in the ODU. There
is an E1 interface that carries voice information from the IDU to the ODU. The E1 also provides communications
for housekeeping between the two devices, for SIM interfacing and “reset to factory defaults” commands. Lastly
there is an Ethernet connection thru the IDU connecting directly to the ODU base-band processor.
