If there is a fuel-burning appliance in more than one room and
the number of alarms is limited, the following points should be
considered when deciding where best to position the alarm:
•
Locate the alarm in a room containing a flueless or open-
flued appliance, and
•
Locate alarm in a room where the occupant(s) spend most
time.
If the domestic premises are a bedsit (a single room serving as
both sitting and bedroom), then the alarm should be positioned
as far from the cooking appliances as possible but near to
where the person sleeps.
If the appliance is in a room not normally frequented (for
example a boiler room), the alarm should be positioned so that
the alarm may be heard more easily. Alternatively, an
interlinked alarm or a remote alarm siren may be connected to
a type A alarm located in a room(s) containing a fuel-burning
appliance.
Where a fuel-burning appliance has an extended and/or
concealed flue, an alarm should be installed in each room
through which the flue passes.
Room- fuel-burning appliance:
Although carbon monoxide
has a similar density to that of ambient air, it will normally be
emitted as part of a warm gas mixture and will therefore tend to
rise until it cools. If the alarm is located on a wall, it should be
located close to the ceiling and at a height greater than the
height of any door or window.
Where an alarm is ceiling mounted, it should be at least 300
mm from any wall, and where an alarm is wall-mounted, it
should be at least 150 mm from the ceiling. The alarm should
be at a horizontal distance of between 1 m and 3 m from the
nearest edge of the potential source.
If there is a partition in a room, the alarm should be located on
the same side of the partition as the potential source. Carbon
monoxide alarms in rooms with sloped ceilings should be
located at the high side of the room.
Sleeping rooms and in rooms remote from a fuel burning
appliance:
Alarms located in sleeping rooms and in rooms
/areas, e.g. hallways, landings, remote from the fuel-burning
appliance should be located relatively close to the breathing
zone of the occupants.

Locations to avoid
Improper location can affect the sensitive electronic
components in this alarm. To avoid causing damage to the
unit, to provide optimum performance, and to prevent
unnecessary nuisance alarms:
•
Do not install in kitchens, garages, or furnace rooms that
may expose the sensor to substances that could damage
or contaminate it.
•
Do not install in areas where the temperature is colder
than 0
°C or hotter than +40°C such as crawl spaces,
attics, porches, and garages.
•
Do not install within 1.5 m of heating or cooking
appliances. We recommend 4.5 m to prevent nuisance
alarms.
•
Do not install near vents, flues, chimneys, or any
forced/unforced air ventilation openings.
•
Do not install on metal surfaces.
•
Avoid mounting in areas with a large quantity of metal or
electrical wires.
•
Do not install near ceiling fans, doors, windows, or areas
directly exposed to the weather.
•
Do not install in dead air spaces, such as peaks of vaulted
ceilings or gabled roofs, where CO may not reach the
sensor in time to provide early warning.
•
Do not install near deep-cell large batteries. Large
batteries have emissions that can cause the alarm to
perform at less than optimum performance.
•
Do not obstruct the vents located on the alarm. Do not
place the alarm where drapes, furniture, or other objects
block the flow of air to the vents.
•
Do not install directly above sink. Do not install in a damp
or humid location or in the immediate vicinity of a cooking
appliance.
Battery installation and replacement
Note:
Place the control panel into sensor test mode prior to
replacing the batteries. If the control panel is not in sensor test
mode during battery replacement, an alarm/tamper condition
may be indicated.
To install or replace the batteries in this alarm:
1. Slide the alarm body off of the mounting plate.
2. If replacing batteries, remove the old batteries and
properly dispose of them as recommended by the battery
manufacturer.
