Create a Disk Drive Stripe Set

To ensure optimal performance, you should create a stripe set that includes all of the disk
drives in the system.  Creating a stripe set splits the data from a single file or database onto
several disk drives, permitting multiple simultaneous accesses to the data.

CAUTION

Before you attempt to create a disk drive stripe set, refer to Disk Administrator Help for more
detailed information on creating and using a stripe set.

To create a disk drive stripe set:

1.  From the Start menu, select Programs/Administrative Tools/Disk Administrator to run

Disk Administrator.

2.  Select the first area of free space on the first disk; then press

CTRL

 and select an

additional area of free space on each of the other disks you want to add to the stripe set.

3.  From the Partition menu, select Create Stripe Set.

4.  Type the size of the stripe set you want to create, and then select OK.

5.  From the Partition menu, select Commit Changes Now.

6.  From the Tools menu, select Format to display the Format dialog.

7.  Select NTFS as the file system type, and then select Start.

8.  When formatting is complete, select OK.

9.  Select Close to close the Format dialog.

10.  From the Partition menu, select Exit.

After creating the stripe set, you should save the disk configuration information for future
use (for example, if you have to re-install the operating system).  Refer to Disk Administrator
Help for instructions on saving and restoring the disk configuration information.

Configure to Use PC Card Devices

If the system has a PC Card adapter, you may have to do the following to use certain PC
Card devices:

If the system has an ISA network adapter, you may have to disable the parallel port and
Universal Serial Bus (USB) ports to use an ATA-type PC Card hard disk.

If the system has an ISA network adapter and an Intense 3D Pro video display adapter,
you may have to disable one of the serial ports to use a PC Card modem.
