Taking Antistatic Precautions
You will be opening the system to remove and install expansion boards. Some components
in a system can be damaged by static electricity. To minimize the possibility of damage, take
the following steps:
u
Turn off power to the system.
u
Leave the power cord connected to the system and to the AC outlet to maintain ground.
u
Touch the metal chassis to drain off any static electricity.
u
Wear a properly connected grounding wrist strap. Make sure the wrist strap is
connected properly to the system and contacts bare skin on your wrist.
u
Do not wear wool or polyester clothing.
u
Work in an area with a relative humidity of at least 50 percent.
u
Work on an antistatic surface.
