Memory Module Replacement
Required Tools and Supplies
•
Anti-static wrist strap and conductive workbench pad (recommended)
•
Replacement equivalent memory module
Memory modules are NOT hot-swappable. The system must be powered down and unplugged from the AC
power source before replacing a faulty memory module from the system.
1.
Power off the system and remove the system top cover (see
Section 6.1.1

Remove the air duct (see

Identify and locate the faulty memory module.
4.
Remove the memory module from the system (See
Figure 60. Memory Module Removal
•
Ensure that the ejection tabs of adjacent memory slots are fully closed.
•
Open the ejection tabs at both ends of the selected memory slot (see Letter “A”). The memory
module will lift out from the memory slot.
•
Holding the memory module by its edges, lift it away from the slot (see Letter “B”).
5.
Locate and carefully unpack the replacement memory module, taking care to only handle the device
by its outer edges.

Install the memory module onto the server board (See
Figure 61. DIMM Installation
•
Ensure that the ejection tabs at both ends of the selected memory slot are pushed outward to the
open position (see Letter “A”).
•
Align the notch at the bottom edge of the memory module with the key in the memory slot
(see Letter “B”).
•
Insert the memory module into the memory slot.
•
Using even pressure along the top edge, push down on the memory module (see Letter “C”) until
the ejection tabs of the memory slot snap into place (see Letter “D”).
•
Ensure that the ejection tabs are firmly in place (see Letter “E”).
