Software installation will place a shortcut on the
computer Desktop. Do try to resist the overwhelming
temptation to double-click the icon at this time. We
sincerely recommend first installing the USB driver,
whether or not the encoder s USB port will be your
primary means of addressing the unit.
Installing the
USB Driver
At this time, power-up the Model 720 and connect it to the computer
using the USB cable provided.
Windows® will post a message that new hard-
ware has been found. Next, the Found New
Hardware Wizard will start and guide you
through the installation step.
On the initial Welcome screen (below, left), check the box
Install
from a list or specific location (Advanced)
, and then click
Next
.
Continue to click
Next
until installation reaches the window shown
on the right. Highlight the driver on the CD-ROM drive named:
C:\Program Files\Inovonics RDS Encoder 720\USB Drivers
as shown,
and then click
Next
once again. When driver installation completes,
the final screen will prompt you to click
Finish
. At this point you will see an-
other notification, this time advising
that the new hardware is installed and
ready to use.
RUNNING THE SOFTWARE
NOTE:
Even if you have no intention of programming the encoder
through the USB port in everyday operation, we recommend that
you familiarize yourself with the static data entry procedure of en-
coder programming using the USB connection. If you have followed
this manual s sequence of encoder setup, the computer should be
connected to the USB port at this time. A procedure for establishing
serial (COM) port communications between the computer and the
encoder begins on Page 22.
