3.8 Input / Output Polarity
The active state polarity of the Electrical Load Manager’s input and output signals is configured in the
polarity adjustment mode. Holding both the MODE and USER switches for 3 seconds causes the
Electrical Load Manager to go into polarity adjustment mode. The display will flash “PoL“ for
approximately 1 second to indicate it has entered programming mode and then “01x” to show that output
load 1 has been selected, where “x” is either “L” or “H” to indicate low or high side polarity. Low side
outputs provide a connection to ground when they are active. High side outputs provide a connection to
Main Battery when they are active. Low side inputs are active when they are connected to ground, high
side inputs are active when they are connected to Main Battery.
When the Electrical Load Manager is in the polarity adjustment mode the NEXT switch is used to cycle
from the display “01x” to “16x” to indicate load outputs 1 through 13, alarm and fast idle outputs, and the
three system inputs, LM Enable, Master Warning, and Parking Brake. The front panel LEDs for the
selected output or input will be also illuminated. The “x” value will be either “H” or “L” to indicate high or
low side polarity.
When the Electrical Load Manager is in the polarity adjustment mode the MODE switch toggles the
polarity setting for the selected input or output between high side and low side polarity. Changes to the
input and output polarity are effective immediately.
Users must be cautious and ensure that the correct input and output polarity is selected for their
application. The Electrical Load Manager’s load and alarm outputs are protected from over-current fault
conditions but that does not guarantee that a load device is protected from a reverse polarity condition.
Changes to the polarity settings are saved in the Electrical Load Manager by pressing the STORE switch.
The STORE switch must be pressed to save any changes to a selected input or output, failure to do so
before stepping to the next input output point will cause the setting to be lost.
The PROGRAM switch is used to permanently save the polarity configuration in the Electrical Load
Manager’s non-volatile memory and return to normal operation.
3.9 System Voltage Selection
The Electrical Load Manager system voltage is selectable from the front panel. When the unit is in
programming mode press the NEXT switch until the digital display reads either “-12” or “-24”. The USER
switch will toggle the display between “-12” and “-24”. Once the desired setting has been selected press
the STORE switch until the display goes blank and returns to the new system voltage selection. Press
and hold the PROG switch until “Pro” appears on the digital display this will indicate the setting has been
saved.
3.10 Locking / Unlocking the Front Panel
The Electrical Load Manager front panel programming interface can be locked to prevent inadvertent or
intentional modifications to the configuration. When the front panel is locked the switches are inactive.
The procedure for locking or unlocking the front panel is identical, the switch press sequence toggles
between locked and unlocked.
To lock the front panel, simultaneously press and hold the STORE, MODE, and USER switches. After 3
seconds the display will show “LoC”, release the STORE, MODE, and USER switches and press and hold
the PROGRAM button until the display changes to “IC”.
To unlock the front panel, simultaneously press and hold the STORE, MODE, and USER switches. After
3 seconds the display will show “ULC”, release the STORE, MODE, and USER switches and press and
hold the PROGRAM button until the display changes back to the main battery voltage.
