Interface. The library stores the customized inventory data in the Library Control
Blade.
The enhanced bar code reader on the new Accessor assembly (P/N 45E2718)
supports 3592 tape cartridges with a SILO (Sun StorageTek Powderhorn 9310) style
label with the TS3400 Tape Library.
Optional Features
Additional features are available that can be added to the library to enhance
performance. For information on ordering additional features or replacement parts
for the library, see Chapter 11, “Feature Codes and Parts List,” on page 11-1.
3592-E06, 3592-EU6, and 3592-E05 Tape Drives
This library supports the 3592-E06 Tape Drive, 3592-EU6 Tape Drive, and 3592-E05
Tape Drive. Each tape drive in the library is packaged in a container called a drive
canister. The drive canister is a field replaceable unit (FRU), designed for quick
removal and replacement in the library.
All models of the 3592 tape drive support a dual-ported switched fabric LC Fibre
Channel connector. The 3592-E06 Tape Drive has an Ethernet port on the rear panel
and the 3592-E05 Tape Drive does not. Though uncommon, some Model 3592-EU6
Tape Drives have an Ethernet port.
Data Encryption
The 3592 tape drives include data encryption capabilities within the drive itself with
the use of an Encryption Key Manager (EKM), helping to avoid the need for
host-based encryption of data, with a concurrent drain on host performance, or the
use of specialized encryption appliances.
Dynamic Speed Matching
To improve system performance, the 3592 tape drives use a technique called dynamic
speed matching to adjust its native (uncompressed) data rate to the slower data rate
of the attached server.
Channel Calibration
The channel calibration feature of the 3592 tape drives customize each read/write
data channel for optimum performance. The customization enables compensation for
variations in the recording channel transfer function, media characteristics, and read/
write head characteristics.
Control Path Failover
A control path is a logical path into the library through which a server sends standard
Medium Changer commands to control the logical library. Additional control paths
reduce the possibility that failure in one control path will cause the entire library to be
unavailable. Use of the control path failover feature further reduces that possibility.
Data Path Failover
Data Path Failover is designed to provide a failover mechanism in the IBM device
driver, which enables you to configure multiple redundant paths in a SAN
environment. In the event of a path or component failure, the failover mechanism is
designed to automatically provide error recovery to retry the current operation using
