2. Following the applicable requirements described in “Planning considerations,”
install the storage expansion enclosure or units in the rack. See “Installing the
support rails and the storage expansion enclosure into a rack cabinet” on page
22.
3. If you are connecting more than one storage expansion enclosure, cable
together the storage expansion enclosures as described in “Cabling the storage
expansion enclosures in a redundant loop” on page 53.
Note: If you are connecting only one storage expansion enclosure to the
storage server, continue instead with “Cabling the storage expansion
enclosures to the storage server” on page 56.
4. Connect the storage expansion enclosure or enclosure loop to the storage
server as described in “Cabling the storage expansion enclosures to the storage
server” on page 56.
5. Power on the storage subsystem.
6. Install the Storage Manager host software. Use the Storage Manager client GUI
to verify the storage server status. Upgrade the DS4000 storage server
controller and storage expansion enclosure ESM firmware as needed.
Note: The DS4000 storage server controller firmware must be at 6.10.xx.xx or
higher to enable the DS4000 storage server to recognize the DS4000
EXP710s. If the DS4000 storage server controller firmware is not
6.10.xx.xx or higher and there are only DS4000 EXP710s in the drive
loop, see Appendix C, “Upgrading the controller firmware for DS4300,
DS4400, and DS4500 (DS4000 EXP710 only),” on page 93 for upgrading
instructions.
If you are adding a new DS4000 EXP700 or DS4000 EXP710 to an existing drive
loop, see “Adding a new storage expansion enclosure to a loop” on page 61.

Storage server compatibility
You can cable the DS4000 EXP700 to a FAStT200 Storage Server, FAStT500 RAID
Controller Enclosure Unit, DS4300 Fibre Channel Storage Server, DS4400 Fibre
Channel Storage Server, or DS4500 Fibre Channel Storage Server.
You can cable the DS4000 EXP710 to a DS4300 (Turbo only) Fibre Channel
Storage Server, DS4400 Fibre Channel Storage Server, or DS4500 Fibre Channel
Storage Server.
Note: Connections to other storage servers might be supported in the future.
