Installing an NVMe U.2 pass-thru card in the 9009-22G or
9223-22S system

About this task
Note: Installing this feature is a customer task. You can complete this task yourself, or contact a service
provider to complete the task for you. You might be charged a fee by the service provider for this service.
If your system is managed by the Hardware Management Console (HMC), use the HMC to install the
part in the system. For instructions, see Installing a part by using the HMC (www.ibm.com/support/
knowledgecenter/POWER9/p9haj/hmcinstall.htm).
If you do not have an HMC, complete the steps in the following procedures to install an NVMe U.2
pass-thru card.
Preparing the 9009-22G or 9223-22S system to install an NVMe U.2 pass-
thru card
To prepare the system to install an NVMe U.2 pass-thru card, complete the steps in this procedure.
Procedure
1. Identify the part and the system that you are working on. For instructions, see Identifying a
part (www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/POWER9/p9haj/sal.htm).
Use the blue identify LED on the enclosure to locate the system. Ensure that the serial number of the
system matches the serial number to be serviced.
2. Stop the system. For instructions, see Stopping a system (www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/
POWER9/p9haj/crustopsys.htm).
3. Label and disconnect the power cords from the system unit.
See Figure 1 on page 2.
Notes:
• This system might be equipped with two or more power supplies. If the removing and replacing
procedures require the system power to be turned off, ensure that all the power sources to the
system are disconnected.
• The power cord (B) is fastened to the system with hook-and-loop fastener (A). If you are placing
the system in a service position after you disconnect the power cords, ensure that you unstrap the
fastener.
