The
amount
of
system
memory
that
is
displayed
is
less
than
the
amount
of
installed
physical
memory.
v
Make
sure
that:
–
The
DIMMs
are
seated
correctly.
–
You
have
installed
the
correct
type
of
memory.
–
If
you
changed
the
memory,
you
updated
the
memory
configuration
in
the
Configuration/Setup
Utility
program.
–
All
banks
of
memory
are
enabled.
The
computer
might
have
automatically
disabled
a
memory
bank
when
it
detected
a
problem,
or
a
memory
bank
might
have
been
manually
disabled.

Check
the
POST
error
log
for
error
message
289:
–
If
the
DIMM
was
disabled
by
a
system-management
interrupt
(SMI),
replace
the
DIMM.
–
If
the
DIMM
was
disabled
by
the
user
or
by
POST,
run
the
Configuration/Setup
Utility
program
and
enable
the
DIMM.
If
the
problem
remains,
call
for
service.
Microprocessor
problems
Symptom

The
computer
emits
a
continuous
tone
during
POST.
The
startup
(boot)
microprocessor
is
not
working
correctly.

Monitor
problems
Some
IBM
monitors

own
self-tests.
If
you
suspect
a
problem

monitor,
see
the
information
that
comes
with
the
monitor
for
instructions
for
testing
and
adjusting
the
monitor.
If
you
cannot
diagnose
the
problem,
call
for
service.

correctly.
If

problem

the
cursor

The
monitor
works
when
you
turn
on
the
computer,
but
the
screen
goes
blank
when
you
start
some
application
programs.
Make
sure
that:

The
application
program
is
not
setting
a
display
mode
higher
than
the
capability
of

monitor.

The
primary
monitor
cable
is
connected
to
the
video
connector.
v
You
have
installed
the
necessary
device
drivers
for

application
programs.
